LIN
Local Interconnect Networks (LIN) aren't exposed as network interfaces, unlike Ethernet and CAN via SocketCAN. To work around that, RemotiveBroker transports LIN frames inside CAN frames. This is why a LIN channel uses the same drivers and driver configuration as a CAN channel. RemotiveBus is available on Linux and Windows (WSL), or on macOS by using a Linux virtual machine. UDP emulation is available on all platforms as a fallback.
RemotiveBus is the default driver. You can change the default driver for all LIN channels in the instance settings.
Schedule table
A default LIN schedule table needs to be specified if the master ECU is using RemotiveBroker. The schedule table name comes from the LIN description file (LDF). You can omit it if the master node is external or runs without a broker (such as Synopsys Silver).
channels:
RearLightLin:
type: lin
schedule_table_name: RLCMLIN01Schedule01
driver:
type: remotivebus
config:
type: vcan
device: rearlightlin
Early versions of RemotiveTopology specified the default schedule table on the master ECU. If you get Error 062 even if the table is specified on the channel, please make sure you are running an up-to-date version of RemotiveTopology.
Connecting to hardware LIN
In order to use a hardware adapter for LIN communication, you need a software bridge that can decode the CAN/UDP frames and send the LIN traffic to the adapter. That bridge can use the plugin capability of the remotivebus driver to know when to connect to and disconnect from the network. In the plugin block you specify parameters to send to the bridge when the network is created and removed:
channels:
RearLightLin:
type: lin
schedule_table_name: RLCMLIN01Schedule01
driver:
type: remotivebus
config:
type: vcan
device: rearlightlin
plugin:
driver: kvaser
name: MyVLIN
device_id: 011121:1
host_mode: master
base_tick_ms: "5"
RemotiveLabs has an open source plugin for Kvaser Hybrid adapters, which can also be used as a reference for other adapters. See the Kvaser RemotiveBus plugin repository for a description of the plugin parameters.
